Dave has over 30 years consulting experience (over 20 years in healthcare), in addition to senior line experience in health services and technology companies. His practice focuses on large community, academic and investor-owned health systems, health plans, specialty providers – especially children’s hospitals – and healthcare technology companies.

Since joining BDC Advisors in 2001, Dave has directed a variety of strategic and operational consulting engagements, including strategy projects for leading East and West Coast academic medical centers and regional health systems, organizational design projects for a large West Coast medical group, a Midwest-based health system, and an East Coast academic medical center, and a project to develop a “consumer choice” plan design and provider network for a large California-based health plan. He has also helped a leading East Coast children’s hospital define market penetration and partnership strategies and worked with a large Midwest-based group practice to develop its regional affiliation network.

Immediately prior to joining BDC Advisors, Dave was Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of thap!, a “business to employee (B2E)” company providing health, productivity, and absence management services via the Internet to large employers. Before joining thap!, Dave managed consulting for Computer Sciences Corporation’s Healthcare Group (CSC), which acquired his former firm, APM Management Consultants, in 1996. From 1986 to 1998 with APM/CSC, he directed over 150 consulting projects across the country, including strategy projects for integrated health systems, academic medical centers, and health plans, operations and re-engineering projects for large hospitals and health systems, merger, affiliation and organization design projects, and an Internet technology survey for the CEOs of over thirty children’s hospitals.

Prior to joining APM/CSC, Dave was on the faculty of the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he taught organizational behavior, human resource management, and management of technology. Before MIT, he worked as a consultant for McKinsey & Company in San Francisco, New York, and Copenhagen. While at McKinsey, he managed the “Excellent Companies” project that provided the foundation research for the business best-seller, In Search of Excellence.

Dave has a BS from Yale and an MBA and Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. He has published numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on healthcare strategy, organization design, and technology issues.
